Philadelphia Symphony Violinist Jonathan Beiler Leads Master Class
PRINCETON – October 23, 2003 – Philadelphia Symphony Violinist Jonathan Beiler will lead the first Princeton String Academy Master Class November 8. Mr. Beiler will critique five violinists during the class, the first in a series underwritten by the Princeton String Academy. The public is welcome and admission is free to the event set for 1:30 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 177 Princeton-Hightstown Road in Princeton Junction.
“Master classes are held to expose music students to visiting artists. It is a particularly exciting, challenging and rewarding experience in which students have an opportunity to perform. For parents, it’s important to hear a violinist who is playing in one of the world’s greatest orchestras talk about playing and teaching,” said Paul Manulik, Princeton String Academy music director.
Performing for the master class will be: Geneva Torsilieri, daughter of Dean Torsilieri and Chris Eastman of East Amwell; Jeffrey Kuan, son of Lihua Yeh and Chikuang (Andy) Kuan of Princeton; Zach Klopman, son of Rob and Amy Klopman of Allentown; Katharina Gebert, daughter of Reinhold and Brigitte Gebert of Princeton Junction; and Elena Bridgers, daughter of Debra Weier and William Bridgers of Princeton.
Mr. Beiler will share his views on phrasing, effective practice techniques and musical expression during the class. A member of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1976, Mr. Beiler has also performed with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony. He has studied with Broadus Erle and Syoko Aki at Yale University, and with Josef Gingold at Indiana University. Mr. Beiler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. He is on the faculty of Temple University and also maintains a private teaching studio in Haddonfield, New Jersey.
Princeton String Academy, led by music director Paul Manulik, offers violin and viola instruction to students as young as three. Using the proven Suzuki Method that emphasizes development of natural talent, students study in both private lessons and weekly group classes. The private school was founded in 2000 and has an enrollment of approximately 50 students.
