Learning and Sharing

Star String Student

An underlying principle of Talent Education is that students are surrounded by a nurturing, supportive learning environment. Students learn through private lessons, daily practice with a parent who serves as the at-home teacher (the Suzuki parent), listening to recordings of their pieces, and through group classes. Their achievements are shared and recognized through a variety of informal and formal performance opportunities.

Family Attendance Policy

Participation by student and parent at all lessons, classes, recitals and concerts is required. In the event of a conflict with a regularly scheduled lesson, students may attempt to switch private lessons with other students.

Enrollment

Enrollment is for the 2004-2005 academic year of September 7 through June 18. The year is divided into four quarters and tuition is due at the beginning of the quarter. No statements are sent. Quarters begin September 7, November 6, January 29 and April 16.

Tuition

Tuition entitles each student to all scheduled lessons, group classes, performance class weeks, solo recitals and group concerts. No credit or refund is given for student absences. Payment is due by the first day of each quarter. A late payment fee of $20 is added if payment is not received within 10 days of the start of the each quarter.

Inclement Weather

When the public schools cancel or dismiss classes early due to inclement weather, you may cancel your lesson if you wish. However, you’re welcome to keep your lesson. We urge parents to make their own decisions whether they feel it is safe to travel. When practical, please call to let us know either way. Every attempt will be made to reschedule individual lessons missed due to weather cancellations.

Concert Dress

Concert Dress, required for formal performances, consists of dark pants or skirt, with white or very light-colored dress shirt, and dress shoes. Dark dresses or jumpers may be worn. Ties are optional.

For solo recitals, students may wear any attire appropriate for a formal occasion.

Make-Up Lessons

Lesson schedules are given to all families. If you cannot attend at your scheduled time, please arrange to trade times with another student. Students who miss a lesson due to illness may request a make-up lesson, scheduled at the teacher’s convenience as allowed. Only one make-up lesson will be scheduled during an 18-week period. No make-up lessons are given for any other absences.

Summer Lessons

Summer Lessons are arranged in May and are offered for approximately eight weeks. Students may sign up for as many lessons as desired at the regular hourly rate. There are no group classes.
