PRINCETON -- February 4, 2003 -- Princeton String Academy violinist Zora Schlitz-Rouse, 10, performed on February 3 in a music workshop given by concert artist Pamela Frank. She is the daughter of Glenn Schiltz and Carolyn Rouse of Princeton. Zora studies with Paul Manulik, Princeton String Academy music director.
Zora performed Melodie, a slow and mournful piece from "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" from the opera Orpheus and Euridice, composed by Christoph Gluck and transcribed for violin by Fritz Kreisler. She began studying the instrument at age five and is in fifth grade at Community Park School. One of nine students who performed, Zora was chosen in statewide auditions held in early December. To be considered for participation, students must live in New Jersey and study with a teacher who lives and teaches in the state.
Princeton String Academy, led by music director Paul Manulik, offers violin and viola instruction to students as young as three. Using the proven Suzuki Method that emphasizes development of natural talent, students study in both private lessons and weekly group classes. The private school was founded in 2000 and has an enrollment of 50 students.
Ms. Frank has performed on violin with world-renown orchestras across the United States and the world, and with other great artists including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Claude Frank. The workshop was held at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music in Englewood and was sponsored by an endowment established by Alan and Joan Handler of Fort Lee.
