PRINCETON – July 8, 2003 – Music Director Paul Manulik will join a dozen other professional violinists, violists and cellists from across the United States and England in teaching July 20 – 25 at the Central Pennsylvania String Institute.
He will be teaching advanced playing techniques to violin and viola students in daily private lessons and master classes. In addition, Mr. Manulik will perform the Sonata in G Major – Prelude, by J.S. Bach and a movement from Paul Hindemith’s Sonata for Viola at the faculty recital set for July 24.
“Because Institutes let students focus on their playing while socializing with other young musicians, they begin to see themselves as violinists or violists, not just as someone who takes music lessons. When they start to see themselves that way, they then become more committed to practicing. Of course then they become better players and that reinforces their commitment to the instrument and to high achievement in other areas of their lives as well, ” Mr. Manulik said. “It’s always a delight to teach at an Institute and watch this transformation take place.”
Classes at the String Institute include a teen chamber music program, three orchestras, advanced violin techniques, Irish and traditional fiddling, and jazz improvisation. In addition to private and master lessons, students will take part in group-class performances, repertoire class, solo recital and a grand concert. Approximately 150 students are expected to attend the Institute this year at Millersville University in south central Pennsylvania.
