Our program is well-suited for students who are at a minimum of age 3-1/2. Students between 3 and 3-1/2 may be admitted, particularly if they have one or more older siblings already enrolled in the school. Admission considerations include the student's attention span and willingness to take direction. Parents' enthusiasm and commitment are also important.
Prospective parents and students are required to observe one or more private lessons before making a commitment. After the director has met with the child and discussed lesson length and instrument choice with the parent, the student is enrolled or placed on a waiting list if there are no openings.
Because learning for pre-teenage children occurs most readily when the parent takes an active role as at-home teacher, we place a high importance on family commitment to music education. Occasionally we find it necessary to ask families with poor attendance at private or group lessons and poor practice habits at home to leave the program.
